If you follow my instagram (@abigailsapron), you probably already know that I’ve been hosting dinner parties each month. I’ve hosted a spring/farmer’s market themed party, a Greek-inspired dinner with traditional Mediterranean dishes, and a special birthday dinner for my dear sister. I’ve also assisted a chef in planning and hosting multiple dinner parties for special events; all to say, I know a thing or two about the process and behind-the-scenes work it takes to execute a FABULOUS dinner party!

My favorite part of hosting dinner parties is the creativity of it- the possibilities are endless and that’s such a beautiful thing. Hosting these dinner parties is like painting an artwork for me: one thing at a time, carefully + thoughtfully planned out, and slowly putting pieces of my visions together. This form of art is special though- you don’t just get to create it, you get to experience and live it with the people you love.. I think that’s why I fell in love with the art of cooking.

July’s theme was near and dear to my heart: Italian-inspired. Since I was a little girl, I’ve loved Italian food and always opted for it on special occasions. Last year in the spring, I visited Italy for the first time (specifically Florence, Tuscany, and Lake Como) and It’s safe to say I left a piece of my heart there (as does anyone who has been to Florence, IYKYK). As it is the middle of summer and tomatoes are in their peak season, I figured it was the perfect month to utilize the bountiful produce to create an enchanting Italian-inspired evening that has an emphasis on tomatoes and fresh herbs from my garden.

For every dinner, there is a planning process I go through to ensure an organized and efficient preparation for a successful evening. Here, you’ll find a guide to host your very own dinner party! I’ve broken down all of the steps: how to choose a theme, inspiration, planning a menu, the tablescape, recipes, groceries, and tips + tricks for success. Save this post to host your very own incredible dinner, or send it to your bestie who loves to cook to inspire them <3
